Important Informations
It is a city in the north-east of Italy. As Italy is a part of the EU you need to check if your passport lets you enter in this country. If you need a Visa you can get the Schengen visa that last 90 days and allows you to enter in 26th European countries.
You need a plug type C to charge your devices in Italy. Make sure you have the appropriate adaptor.
Don’t expect to find a lot of wifi around. That’s why I’d recommend to buy a sim card if you stay in Italy for a week or more and especially if you travel around the country. The easiest way is to buy a e-simcard and to install it right before your arrival. I’d recommend to Buy your card through Airalo here.

How to get there
First of all the Italian railway is very functional and reliable. In my experience getting to Verona was very smooth. Actually I started my journey in Switzerland and had only one stop between my departure and the arrival in Verona.
Depending on your arrival you have several options:
- If you come from a neighbour country: I’d recommend taking the train from your home as it’s pretty much the same amount of time that if you fly to Milan and then take a train to Verona.
- The second option if you come from another continent or a further country in Europe: The easiest way is to fly to Milan and then to take the train to Verona.
- If you travel domestically: The easiest way is to take the train. You will have connection from every big cities. Another option could be Flixbus or regional buses but I don’t know much about it.
To book your ticket from Milan to Verona in advance I recommend using the website Trainline. I often use it when I need to book a train in European countries. You can book quite in advance at a low price which help you save some money.
10 things to see in Verona
Visit the Castel Vecchio museum
One of my favourite activity during my time in Verona was to visit the Castel Vecchio and its museum. The museum itself is very insteresting and has a nice view on the city. What’s more is that you can walk around the ruins of the castle that overlook the city. You can have a look at the museum website that link just here. The entrance ticket is 9€ per person.

Immerse yourself in the most romantic story of all times by going to the Casa Di Giulietta
Have you ever read Romeo and Juliette? This is where you will finally be able to see the background of the story. Discover the famous balcony of Juliette and even more ! There is actually the house of Juliette and the houe of Romeo to visit as well.
Explore the Verona Arena
Because the Colosseum in Roma is the most famous arena lots of this roman ruins are often overlooked. However there a multiple of arena around Europe and beyond. The one in Verona is beautiful especially in the morning. I’d recommend to have a look at least from the outside.

Book an Italian cooking class !
Italy is the FOOD country ! So who wouldn’t learn how to cook the best food in the world? You can find cooking classes on many platforms even on Airbnb. I found a couple that I would have picked when I was in Verona. I link them below for you.

Walk in the historic center
Piazza del Erbe
It is the most ancient square of Verona and holds the ancient roman forum where the heart of the city was.
Torre dei Lamberti
You will probably see it when you go to the Piazza Del Erbe. It is the tower that you can see from the square and it is part of the palace near by.
Basilica di San Zeno
This ancient basilica has a good story that you can discover when you visit. It also holds a beautiful collection inside. You can see the photo up on the right that represents this Basilica.

Ponte Nuovo
In addition of your old town tour you can end up at this bridge for a good lookout on the city and the river. I would recommend to cross it for a beautiful picture of the city.
Try a wine tasting experience
Leaving Italy without trying a wine tasting is in my opinion a big mistake. Lucky you some great vineyards are actually located around Verona. So if you are interested trying this activity then Verona is the perfect place. Unfortunately my time was rushed so I couldn’t enjoy a wine tasting there but here are some tours that I would have picked :
- Wine tasting with Panoramic view of Verona.
- Discover Valpolicella Vineyards and Wine tasting.
- Verona Food guided tour and Wine tasting.
Witness the sunset at the view from the Castel of San Pietro

Where to stay
I personally chose to stay in an Airbnb. I always choose to stay in a flat when I want to cook for myself and for health reason I couldn’t eat gluten at that time so I needed to cook( I know going in Italy when you can’t eat gluten is quite bold ).
However there are plenty hotels in Verona and for every budget. So let me share with you my favourites.
Budget
- Stravagante Hostel is very well located and has everything you search for in a hostel. That would have probably be my pick as a budget traveller.
Average
- Corte San Mattia is a beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the town. It has a nice garden and a pool. A perfect place if you’re searching a relaxing time between your visits.
- La Suite Di Giuletta is located right next to the balcony of Romeo & Giuletta in the heart of Verona. Perfect if you want to stay in the center of the town and have a comfortable hotel.
Luxury
- Relais Colle San Pietro Is the perfect fit for you if you are looking for the best view of Verona from your bedroom. It is absolutely stunning!
- NH Collection Palazzo Verona is a 5 stars palace with a beautiful roman style decoration. They opened recently so everything is very modern.

Popular group tour
Finally you can decide to let your faith in good hands ! Choose a group tour of the city center and learn more about the Italian rich culture and history. I linked two group tours that I personally think are the most interesting in term of quality and price.
