Posted on October 23, 2023May 27, 2024 by fannyferio

Planning a trip to Jordan ? Here is the perfect itinerary for 10 days, the must see to discover this beautiful country and all my personal recommendations.

Every year, my best friend and I take a trip together ! As we don’t live in the same country we find that it is a nice way to meet up. This time, we decided to rent a car in Jordan and drive around the country for 10 days. In this article, I’ll share with you the itinerary, the budget and the things to do in Jordan.

Useful Informations

Visa : You can apply for a visa prior arrival. I recommend doing it while ordering the Jordan pass. This pass allows you to enter in lots of sights and museums around the country. You basically pay the Jordan pass and then you don’t have to pays anything else. It WILL save you money. You can book it online at this address : https://jordanpass.jo/

Currency: Jordanian dinar (JOD)

The plugs are the same as the French one. If you own different charger then you need an adaptor.

It is more respectful to dress according the culture. It is not mandatory but you won’t get too much attention and look less like a tourist. I recommend covering your shoulders and knees. I also brought a scarf with me and wear it on our coffee break on the motorway. It was easier because we weren’t getting much attention like this. This is my opinion and it is not at all mandatory.

To me, Jordan is a safe country for women. I’ve never felt in danger at any moment. The only place I was more careful was Amman but like every capital in the world it has its not recommended areas.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Amman. Take the car and spend the night in the capital. Or if you arrive early why not already driving until Wadi Rum ?

We arrived late at night so we stayed one night around the airport before leaving early morning for Wadi Rum.

Day 2 & 3 : Wadi Rum Desert

We chose to experience a bubble hotel and we were not disappointed (see picture below.) It still is one of my favourite memories from Jordan and one of my favourite stay ever !!! From sunrise to sunset you can’t get enough of this view.

This option is expensive ! If you prefer to get an authentic Bedouin experience you can book a stay in a Bedouin tent. Lots of hotels offer this option which is very affordable.

Most of hotels offer guided tours. We chose an early morning tour because the temperature get very high during the afternoon. The tour started at 5am to witness the sunrise. Our guide showed us the main sights and we came back at 2pm.

If you’re interested by staying in a bubble I recommend booking the Zeina Desert Lodge. It was the perfect stay.

What to do in Wadi Rum

  • Lawrence Spring
  • Khazall Canyon
  • Burdah Rock Bridge
  • Um Fruth Rock Bridge
  • Seven Pillars of Wisdom
  • Um Sabatah
  • The Martian set
  • Mushroom rock

Day 4 & 5 : The Wonder of Petra

We arrived at the beginning of the afternoon from Wadi Ru,. After the check in in our hotel we spent the afternoon in Petra. After that we walked around the nearest sites because it was already very warm.

To enjoy the monastery at its best we kept the hike for the next morning. We woke up to arrive at the opening at 6am. The walk lasted 1h30 ish. The monastery is wonderful and if you have the time it’s definitely worth it ! In front of the monastery you have a cute coffee to sit and admire the view. I recommend doing this hike in the morning because the temperatures get really high in the afternoon.

In the afternoon we visited the museum at the entrance of Petra. The entrance is free with the Jordan pass.

IMPORTANT!

Please don’t ride any animals in Petra. Unfortunately they are mistreated and live in poor conditions. Although it may seem tempting, giving money to ride animals helps promote animal abuse.

Day 6 & 7 : The Dead Sea

Enjoy a couple of days at the Dead Sea and relax. We decided to book a very nice hotel and stay by the pool and the sea all day long at Kempinski hotel Ishtar Dead Sea ! I recommend a 100% ! It was absolutely necessary to enjoy at its most the rest of the trip.

Day 8 : Wadi Mujib & Amman

At the beginning of the afternoon, we tried a fun activities! Wadi Mujib is on the road between the Dead Sea and Amman. It is a canyon with water and you can walk and swim through it. I really liked it !

Day 9 & 10 : Amman

Before taking your flight home I recommend you spending at least 1 day in the capital. Discover Amman and its great history and enjoy some treats around the market.

What to do ?

  • Amman citadel
  • Roman theatre
  • King Abdallah I’s Mosque
  • Al Balad area
  • Eat in typical restaurants of the capital.

What’s more ?

Take a day to go to Jerash. You will like it if you are very interested in history. There is a huge archeological site.
